What was your favorite moment while recording this album/track?
Watching my first son born on the last day of recording our album…thanks to an early arrival on his part, it cut studio time that day -short time by 4 hours- clearly a worthy compromise indeed. His mama’s water broke at about 10:45 in the morning…..and viola…hence the album title – “Broken Water”
CDのレコーディング中に起きた印象に残る瞬間は？
レコーディングの最終日に僕の第一子の出産に立ち会えたことだ。予想より早かった出産に感謝だね、その日はスタジオの時間が4時間短縮されたからさ。明らかに価値のある妥協だったね。息子の母親が朝の10：45くらいに破水したから、アルバムのタイトルはBroken Waterさ。
What was your worst live gig ever?
The show at Smith’s Old Bar when I had bad strings on my guitar that would not stay in tune….not even close! It sucked…I kept retuning and retuning every 30 seconds…it was like a bad dream…I was just falling off a cliff over and over again. The looks on peoples faces in the audience was that of a sewage backup on stage and they witnessed it all! Graphic enough…likely overstated but fun to depict!
今までで一番最悪なライブのエピソードは？
Smith's Old Barでのライブだ。僕のギターの弦がひどくて、一向にチューニングが合わなかった、と言うか全く外れた音程だった！あれは最悪だった。。。30秒ごとに弦を右へ左へ戻し続けたよ。。。あれは悪夢だったね。崖から何度も何度も落ちるようなものだよ。ライブに来ていたお客さんの表情は正に下水が逆流したもの見ているようなもので、全員の目の当たりにしてしまったんだ！あれは映像としてはトゥーマッチだったけど、描写するのは楽しいね！
Do you remember the moment you knew you would play music for the rest of your life?
Without a doubt the first time I amplified a guitar and wrote a song with a friend…it was magic and it was ours. Good or bad, it was ours and it was capable of withstanding time and history once recorded…who knows, it’s art it’s a small glimpse into your heart and soul at a given moment!!
楽器の演奏が一生涯のものだと気づいた瞬間は？
紛れもなく僕が始めてギターをアンプに繋げて友人と作曲をした時だね。。。あれはマジックだった、そして僕らのオリジナルだった。良くも悪くも僕らのオリジナルだったよ。誰も確信は持てないけど、とにかくアートであり、その瞬間は自分のハートとソウルを垣間見たのさ。
Do you remember the moment the band just “clicked”?
I think it was from the first minute during the first practice simply jamming on a random idea we made up on the spot…the energy and connection was undeniable…the music may have needed work and refinement, but the energy swelled up in all of us like a huge wave at times. Writing music with people you love and care about takes away the concern to actually make it huge in a commercial sense…the magic is already there, it’s just a matter of time whether the rest of the world proves capable of getting it with us or not. It exists- the question is for how long and how far. For me, it’s forever and I’m grateful for the gift of great times with great friends creating the best music we are capable of.
バンドをやっていてピンと来た瞬間は？
あれは確か、とある場所で皆で初めて集まって、何も考えずランダムに、単にジャムをし始めた時だった思う。。。あの時のエネルギーと繋がりは非の打ち所が無いものだった。。。その時の音楽は確かに未だ手ほどきが必要だったし、洗練される余地はあったけど、その時のエネルギーはまるで津波のように僕らの体に押し寄せてきたんだ。大切で愛する人達と音楽を作る瞬間は、今後プロとして成功する事に対する恐れをかき消す力があるんだ。。。マジックは既にそこにあり、後は世界が僕らをどれだけ認めるかにあるだけだ。問題はどの程度かとい事だ。僕にとっては無期限であり、素晴らしい友人と一緒に最高の音楽を作れる事にただ単に感謝だね。
